"Eindhoven is compact and modern"

Temesgen Kindo

Temesgen Kindo

Temesgen Kindo from Ethiopia came to Eindhoven on a scholarship from Royal Dutch Shell and the Eindhoven University of Technology. The second year Master's student in Industrial and Applied Mathematics plans to return to his country after he graduates. Until then, he's enjoying his stay in Eindhoven. Unlike many other international students, Kindo is no stranger to cycling. "In my hometown Awassa, 250 kilometers south-east of Addis Ababa, the country is also flat. We use bicycles as our main means of transportation."

Helpful

He came upon Eindhoven while looking on the internet for a place to further his academic career. "I already knew the name of the town through the PSV football club, and I liked what I read about the university of technology." He hasn't been disappointed: "Staff here are very helpful." He likes the town as a place to live. "It's compact and modern, and everything seems to be well organized. People are open and friendly. They also respect your privacy, but if you need help you just have to ask. It's obviously a high tech region, with companies like Philips and ASML." So he has nothing to complain about? What about the food? Somewhat hesitantly: "Well... it's OK."
