The health of children and young people is monitored structurally up to the age of nineteen by the GGD (in Dutch). This starts at the age of five days, when newborn infants are given a Guthrie test (‘hielprik') for congenital diseases and deficiencies. At a later age, young people are given a general medical examination every year. Their psychosocial situation is also checked.
