Leading in Technology
The claim that Eindhoven is ‘leading in technology' is more than just a slogan. Forty per cent of all Dutch spending on research & development takes place in this region. So it's no surprise that Eindhoven and the surrounding region is officially referred to as ‘Brainport'. But of course there are also cross-border links with the neighboring countries. Partnerships with Leuven and Aachen are expected to strengthen the region's position further.
Knowledge triangle Eindhoven-Leuven-Aachen (ELAt)
Eindhoven isn't alone as a knowledge center. Its geographical location was the reason for the city to enter into a partnership in 2003 with Leuven in Belgium and Aachen in Germany, two other knowledge centers ‘just across the border'. The Eindhoven-Leuven-Aachen triangle aims to promote and serve as an example for international and interregional partnerships in the field of knowledge and innovation.
