Architecture

The face of Eindhoven is changing rapidly. Tower buildings like De Regent, De Admirant and the characteristic Vesteda Tower show a new sense of self-confidence. But old buildings certainly aren't being forgotten. For example the Witte Dorp area (the ‘white village') is a preserved urban site. The city council is promoting the work of architects and urban planners by awarding a biannual architectural prize.

Architecture prize (Dirk Roosenburg prize)

The Dirk Roosenburg prize was established by the Eindhoven municipal council. It is awarded biannually to the building or urban project within the municipal boundaries. Ten buildings or projects are shortlisted, and these are then assessed by an expert jury. There is also a public prize. The winners in 2005 were the architects Diederendirrix, with the Baekelandplein residential/business complex. The public prize went to the Kennedy Tower - also a residential/business complex - designed by Van Aken Architectuur en Stedenbouw.
